How can I make this sentence less cliche? Suggestions, examples?

Alone at last , Sarah allowed the thoughts she’d been trying to push away to come forth

When Sarah was finally alone, the thoughts that she had been holding at arms length finally got their place in her consciousness.
The busyness of the day had been keeping Sarah’s thoughts away from her, but when she was alone she gave them their due.
